With my "kitchen studio" permanently installed on the counter, I decided to do the Whatcom Art Guild Monthly Challenge in batik as well [see earlier post below]. I otherwise would not seek out trucks to paint, but it's the club challenge, so why not have some fun with it in watercolor batik? And, yes, I had so much fun doing the first one, I did a second one today, as there were two views of the beat up rusty old truck.
Am pleased with having cropped out a lot of the garbage of the photos we were given, and resized the images in Photoshop, so I could create a "matched pair."

I never could imagine truck to look so inspiring. Amazing work!
Thank you, Irina,
I cropped out all the fishing nets and floats that were on the back of the truck. And the background needed some color and life, so I added that, but the truck itself was interesting with all the rust and dents!
LOVE them!! And that you did a 'matched pair' is the icing on the cake. Very saleable, I would think. You did a really great job on these trucks!!!
I love #1, you should share your process.
Beautiful old trucks Dee! We need to talk techniques :0) I love to do batik watercolor too.
Thanks, Liz and Leada. I so enjoy the technique, but feel as if I am a neophyte with batiks. Will still work on them. I want to try some figurative pieces, but am wondering if the wrinkles will "kill" the figures! But, what the hey ... nothing ventured nothing gained!
I will be doing a little one-day workshop locally, as I am getting a lot of positive feedback.
Again, it's so cool that we can all share in the blogosphere!
Thanks again for you kind comments!
I adore these trucks and the watercolor batik! What a wonderful technique!
Dee, i just found your address on my feedjit, and decided to check it out. your work is amazing! wonderful! wow! your old trucks speak to me! i love them! thanks for having my blog on yours. i plan on add yours to mine!
i would be curious as to how you found mine!
Dee, thanks for your kind comments on my foray into wax batik. I'm a complete novice in that technique, so its great to come here and see what you've been working on.
The trucks are superb and I adore the heron. The colours work so well. I think I went overboard on my wax cracking and the results lines from the wash rather overpower my piece. Yours seem more subdued as I've seen in other batiks.
Also the colours you've used in your final wash for the 'cracks' fits with the painting well and don't contrast too sharply.
I shall be back to see what you're working on the the future!
Thanks, Barb, for stopping by. Am enjoying the batiks. Need to work on some other stuff for classes tho. Good fun!
thanks for stopping by, suzy. Thank yo ufor your kind comments. Forever a work in progress ...
I got to your site via Leada Wood's site. Am interested in fiddling with more collage. I have had my students do a little of it, but wanted to see what others are doing. Love your work!
