Today, and then again on Saturday, I taught/will teach another Batik Workshop. That means ganging all my thrift shop fry pans, irons and hair dryers, as well as an obligatory fire extinguisher, into the senior center, along wih what seems like reams of rice paper, paints, etc. to share with thirteen students for a day.
It also means I really have to amp up my game, and do some new work to share, because several of the students are taking the workshop for a second time. I don't want to serve up repeats of work from the first time, so I have been doing some figures with batiks, and I am sort of pleased with the results. What do you think?

I think these are just lovely. Sounds like an exciting workshop!
Dee, I LOVE these! Possibly my favorites of all the work I've seen of yours. Jill especially. Must learn more about this!
Oh how I wish I could be out West taking your class! Your girl batiks are really great, and I am feeling EXTREMELY inspired (thanks to you) to give this process a try again this year! Very glad to see you posting again. Happy 2012!
Dee, I had a blast yesterday in your batik class and came home with some pretty decent pieces, if I do say so myself. Your paintings of the girl and Jill are even better in person. They are so original and fresh!
I really enjoyed today's class Dee. You're not only a great instructor, but down to earth and so much fun! Oh, and btw your batik paintings are great!
Just wondering . . . how much would these sell for?
Thanks to all of you for your kind words. It's reassuring and lovely to have you like something I so enjoy doing! I enjoy giving the workshops as much as I do selling the work.
I have sold the 8 x 8s for $75, and, because this Samish Girl is my first 18 x 24, I haven't even priced it out yet. Usually, I sell my acrylic 18 x 24s in the $250 to $300 range. Haven't hung Samish Girl in a show or gallery yet.
I know I will be doing more figures as they are my new favorite thing to do in batik!
If the 8 x 8 of Jill is still available, I would love to buy it. I'm in the midst of remodeling and would love to have it in my new living room. Shall I send you a check or buy through the website?
