Ambivalence Abounds

Since I went to a Carla O'Connor workshop at the end of April, I have been experimenting with gold gesso.  Not too much success ... not enough to post, in my estimation.  So, I did this little demo in an acrylics class today, and am not sure whether I like it or not.  I think I have overdone it on the one hand, but it feels as if I missed something on the other.  Just am not sure I like it.  But, I will keep on trying, because I like the gold!

On top of everything else, it doesn't appear to photograph well!

Thanks, Jane,

I would not have so many branches and leaves on the next one. I DO like the gold gesso, but it doesn't seem to photograph well. Will stil keep trying tho! Thanks for your comment!

very nice! would love to see one with less leaves...and maybe less symmetrical?

Thanks for your comments, Kathryn. Yes, agreed that it is rather symmetrical, and it's on an 8" x 8" hardwood panel ... It started as a demo, on which I let each student practice palette knife application, and indeed symmetry evolved, as did too many leaves ... my fault!

the gold gesso never photographs well, I had to have mine professionally photoed. Makes a beautiful background however. I like your demo.

Thanks, Liz, You are kind. This piece is going to get gessoed over and who knows what will emerge? I think it's just too overdone.
